About Us
The Hotels and Tourism Association of Swaziland is a non-profit organisation formed in 1979 with the objectives of promoting the tourism industry in Swaziland.
The Association actively promotes and aids the tourism industry in Swaziland. It supports its members and collaborates with relevant government ministries to benefit not only the association but also the Kingdom as a whole.
An important element is the encouragement and promotion of education and training of potential and existing personnel in the industry with the object of maintaining and improving standards of service in the industry.
Some of our past achievements include representation of Swaziland at important regional and international annual tourism fairs, including Indaba in South Africa for the past twenty years, World Travel Market in London since 1989, ITB in Berlin since 1991, Getaway shows in South Africa, Holiday Travel World in Dublin in 2005 and Vakantiebeurs in Holland also in 2005. In 1996, the Swaziland stand at the World Travel Market won the prize for the best stand.
Other southern African workshops, exhibitions or shows include The Spotlight on Africa workshops as well as those in Maputo, Nelspruit and Johannesburg.
Training has been a very important function of this organisation. The association formed and organised the Swaziland Tourist Guide Course, which is highly rated and very popular so far, with a total of 382 guides having completed the Course. Customer Care Training Courses have been held frequently for border post officials and have greatly improved the experience of visitors arriving in Swaziland. Frontline personnel within the tourism industry have received training on not only customer care, but also knowledge of their country and what it has to offer the traveller.
Specific local knowledge sessions have been held for places of interest within Swaziland, for example, the Ngwenya Mine, for senior people within the industry to gain a more in depth understanding of Swaziland's history, culture, archaeology etc.
The combination of these and other activities by the association has resulted in a change in the perception of Swaziland internationally, where it is now recognised as a highly desirable travel destination.
